The Harry Potter book

Hmmm...I can't say I didn't enjoy reading it, because I did. And yet...it wasn't really exciting. I'd gotten most of the way through the book before I realised that I was still waiting for the exciting bits to start. Then there was an exciting bit - fighting the Death Eaters in Hogwarts Castle - and then it was all over.

I found it more interesting than gripping - quite a lot about Voldemort was explained but not a lot happens otherwise and the Big Bad himself doesn't actually show up at all.

Probably the most disappointing thing about this book is that it felt more like a deliberate Part One of a two-part series, rather than a stand-alone story of its own. Of course, having said all that, I will probably read the final installment even if it's only to find out how it all ends.

I agree. It really felt like she was primarily focused on moving everybody into position for the next book.

I haven't even read the first book yet so I won't comment but I gather there is still no baby.

I just read you Leo baby post and that is my Little Miss 6 to a tee. It's actually scary how accurate it is, her birthday is next week and yep, she is an audience seeking energetic centre of attention. But Leo babes are fun, you'll love it.

my sister said I could borrow it when I left Hanmer Springs - I needed reading material for the bus and plane home. But I knew I wouldn't finish it that evening and then I'd be moving house and it would probably be a while before I'd pick it up again. I did start it on holiday but got bored pretty quickly... I think I need a good reason to wade through a HP book - like being stuck in a hospital bed like I was when I read the first 3 (which a child friend very kindly brought in for me).

Have you planned what you'll be reading once baby arrives?

mtnw:...which is a bit of a rip-off really. All those pages, and she couldn't even give us a complete story...

llcoffee: nope. Still no baby. The Leo profile sounds like fun alright. Maybe it'll bring on my second childhood.

ms mac: I hope you enjoy it more than I did. The boy really liked it.

shaira: thanks for dropping in. That's a very cute photo you have there.

editter: I wasn't planning on reading anything post-birth, except maybe Baby Love which is a parenting book for the first 12 months. I thought I'd concentrate on sleeping whenever possible...

I have heard this complaint about the new Harry Potter book as well. I guess I will find out once I can borrow it from someone. It just may be that the most exciting aspect of the book was going to the midnight bookstore shindig.
