Counting down to the holiday

Excitement is definitely in the air - I'm anxiously adding to the mental packing list, the boy is trying not to think about flying (which he hates) and Baby's nap-less with anticipation

I don't know whether there is any Internet access at the resort; there's no mention of it in any of the publicity blurb, so maybe not. In that case, you won't hear from me for a couple of weeks (but if I'm wrong then you'll be getting daily updates when I get bored with lounging)

So I'll leave you with this Proust questionnaire which I found at Baboon of Magnesia...

Where would you like to live?

I love the city I live in, but I wouldn't mind living in a bigger house with a deck and an extra bathroom

What is your idea of earthly happiness?
Feeling loved

To what faults do you feel most indulgent?
I eat too much, and mostly it's cakes

Who are your favorite heroes of fiction?

That's a hard one; usually my favourite fictional characters are anti-heroes. If I can include a television character it'd be Willow from BtVS

Who are your favorite characters in history?
Mozart, because he was so damned talented but - if the film was right - not at all snobbish

Who are your favorite heroines in real life?
I don't have any. Maybe that's why my life has always lacked direction.

Your favorite painter?

Shane Cotton

Your favorite musician?
The Cocteau Twins

The quality you most admire in a man?
The ability to counter a dark past with a nice-guy present

The quality you most admire in a woman?

The ability to laugh at herself

Your favorite virtue?
I don't try to change people

Your favorite occupation?
Reading magazines on a comfy couch with fellow-travellers after having spent the day sightseeing and frolicking at the beach

Who would you have liked to be?

I don't want to be anyone in particular, but I would have liked to be a more easy-going person

Hi there and Bon Voyage! I'll be checking out those links on flying when our passports arrive. Hope it all goes smoothly for you and you get to partake in your fav occupation.

Happy 9 months plus to Baby, she'll be needing a bigger laundry basket soon.

Please remember to bring her back.

And you are full of surprises! I eat too much and can no longer get away with it. It always seems to be double or triple whatever anyone else nearby is eating, and lately I've had to choose between the usual serving of rice and a tummy ache. I'm Chinese, how can this be ...

Have a fantastic trip. As for baby being nap-less with anticipation, isn't that her usual mode?

I've learned that when we have traveled with Avery....simply being in a new location disrupts our/her sleep pattern. it took almost the first four days of being settled in at my grandmother's house in Florida before Avery would finally settle down for a nap. and then we just had to take her back home and once again she rebeled.
good luck and just do your best to enjoy your time away.

Me too.
Favorite Heroines: Amy and Emily, the Indigo Girls.

eb: That's funny - "Please remember to bring her back". If we leave her behind it'll be because we swapped her for one that sleeps.

flying kiwi:well there's nap-less as in fighting-it-with-every-fibre-of-her-litle-being, and there's nap-less as in fighting but sometimes losing. And this week it's the former.

beth: I wonder it there's a good bakery on the island...

avery's mom: yep, that's what we're expecting. That's why I fully expect Baby to reverse her recent trend of occasionally sleeping through the night.

nigel: you too on what - all of my answers? I have an Indigo Girls tape somewhere, but didn't get into it that much. But then, I was more into Hunters and Collectors in those days.

If you like Cocteau Twins, do you like Lush? I still love them after all these years, but the Cockteau Twins never really did anything for me....

I've been out of the blogging loop lately, where are you off to? And the night before the flight, be sure to make the Boy watch a film like 'Castaway', which I'm sure will calm his fears of flying V^_^V

Have a great time, can't imagine it will be too hard to do. And now strangely I want to go and bake a cake..

Just most of your answers.
I don't know enough about painters to have a favorite but there is a Dutch painting of a cometary that I'm quite fond of.
And my favorite hero from fiction might be Aaron Burr from Gore Vidal's "Burr. A Novel" even though it's only a bit fictional.

I had always gotten the impression that Mozart was actually a brat?
Hope you're enjoying vacation.
(My PC's been messed up and I've lost track of blogs & blog posts; very frustrating).
Oh, also your site has a pop-up ad for some reason.

glomgold: I know about the pop-up. It's been showing up for months and I don't know how to get rid of it. I've asked the Blogger folks about it but have never heard back.

Juliabohemian: Nah, The Cocteaus are English as far as I know. Elizabeth Frazer, one of the singers, also sang as part of another group - for the life of me I cannot remember the name but they did a gorgeous rendition of Song of the Siren.

Jon: I've not heard of Lush. But my music tastes have changed heaps since then anyway.
