Perhaps I should be flattered

It's 9pm and we're watching Tuesday night's episode of Outrageous Fortune.

The phone rings. I curse, then get up to answer it.

"Hello?" I ask in my still-husky voice.
"Ah...could I speak to your mum or dad please?" says the voice on the other end.

!!!

"Um...no." I say.
"Oh, why?"
"Because..they don't live here. Who are you?"
"Oh, this is just a marketing call. Sorry, bye."

It was very slightly surreal.

How odd.
Good way to get out of annoying calls though.

Violet it's a blessing in disguise (9pm for the love of mike? What would a child be doing up then on a school night?). Telemarketing is the barnacle on the bum of the world. Does NZ have a 'do not call' register? We're on it here (although suspect not having a phone has to more to do with not receiving calls at home). I remember they'd always call around 6pm right when you're cooking dinner so I just stopped answering the phone then.

nigel: one time I actively pretended I was a child, just to avoid one of those calls.

donnasoowho: yeah we do, but I haven't done anything about getting on the register. I used to just disconnect the phone during tv-watching times, but my mum used to complain...
