A good start to my New Year's resolution

Before The Little Madam was born, I used to walk home from work. I did this right up until I was about 8 months pregnant, and before I was forced to start getting the bus instead - due to massive hugeness - the journey took me about 45 minutes in the middle of summer.

It was around about that day when, no doubt due to some traffic jam in the middle of town somewhere, it took me 50 minutes to get home on the bus (mostly including a half-hour wait for the damned thing to arrive at the bus stop), that I wondered whether it might be just as quick for me to do the homeward journey on foot, after all.

So this afternoon, I left the office the very nanosecond the clock struck midday. I strode as quickly as my short legs would allow, dodging old ladies and kids on their school holidays, getting nicely warm and hopefully also developing an attractive glow.

I was home in 35 minutes - or 33 minutes if you go by the time on my kitchen clock, which is conveniently a couple of minutes slow.

If I can keep this up for the rest of my work contract, I can expect to earn at least a little firmness around the bum. Then I'll have to work on the tum.

Good for you. After a while you could buy a wagon and pull some people behind you. You could call your new venture "I can get you there faster than the bus" or some such thing, ha,ha..

Way to go. I walk about 40 minutes every morning before work. I've really come to enjoy the early morning peace it brings me before I jump into the fiery pit of hell that is my work cubicle!

happyandblue2: those passengers had better be the slimline ones though - then I can fit more in the wagon without breaking my back...

no milk: you'll probably do better than me, being both young and male. Happy New Year to you too.

michael c: The only way I could fit in a walk before work, would be if I go out of bed at an even crazier hour - like 4.30am or something.

I walked to work a few months ago as the DLR was kaput, it took me am hour and between the green spaces, the water, the early morning birds and the starting work cranes, I arrive refreshed, ready to go and full of energy. As opposed to the crowded 7.45 DLF full of the stink of BO and whatever "charming armpits" is regurgitating in his morning belches. Keep it up!

Walking is inexpensive and a great work out. Enjoy!

elizaf and angela: apart from having to really rush, in order to get home in time, I love walking home. All the sweat and heavy breating makes me feel all virtuous - even if in the old days I never regarded it as a workout, so much as a stroll.
