A reason for being

Glomgold tagged me for a meme, of which the big question is - why do I blog?

The answer is really quite simple. I wanted to be like Carrie in Sex and the City, posting thought-provoking snippets about life as a single woman in her 30's. The only difference was that I don't much look like Sarah Jessica Park, or live in a big city, or have 3 fabulous girlfriends with whom I attend fashionable parties, and no-one would pay me to write anything. Oh yes, and I'm not single.

So I settled for a free form of vanity publishing.

The reason I keep blogging is also quite simple. As long as I feel like writing for other people, and as long as there seem to be half a dozen or so people willing to read my blog, then I'll keep doing it. Also, a big tick next to the word community. It really does feel like I'm in a wee cyber-village full of fellow bloggers trying to make sense of their lives through words and pictures.

Well it's a good thing you're in your 30s then, isn't it, cos otherwise you'd have nothing in common with Sarah Jessica Park. Er, she's not Sylvia Park's sister, by any chance?

Apart from the Sex In The City part, I could have written that post

I would also add that I found it consoling reading other diabetes/infertile blogs, so thought I could add to the merry throng, if someone is helped by it, yay.

I seriously miss doing my bloground each morning and evening. It is social too.

I do wonder sometimes, like the time at a truck stop in Virginia when a dollar bill rolled up a hill to my feet on a lonely windy morning, how it will go over for people getting it second hand. Because not everybody can go to Virginia that easily.

And the same, I can't be in Wellington that easily and having a child, I can't do that at all.
Not with the state of Science today anyway.

editter: yes that's right, Sarah's the 30-something sexpot whose sister is a giant shopping mall...

cathi: yeah it's nice to find that you aren't the only one who has diabetes/an insanely sweeth tooth/not enough stamina to parent a toddler...

nigel: a coin rolled up a hill to you? That's magic!

In addition to my earlier smart comment, I also want to say that I really enjoy your writing. And I reckon I'd enjoy it even if I didn't know you in person.

editter: well it's flattering that a professional editter likes what I write. I really, really liked your post "unless..." - it didn't have any spelling mistakes in it or anything

Wasn't a coin, was a note.
We are still clinging to the Dollar Bill even though it's worth about 35 cents in 1970 US Dollars.
And don't even get me started on The Penny...

nigel: yeah sorry - just goes to show how little time it takes for information to go in one eye and out the other (or something like that).
