Geometry for beginners (0-18 months) 1

After having abandoned my first attempt at an abstract painting, missed the second class and spending days thinking about what I wanted my painting say, I started and completed this one at yesterday's class.

It looks nothing like my classmates' work, one of which was a fabulous impressionistic flower garden scene and the another impressive one being a moody picture based around a collaged image of a ball gown hanging from a coathanger (reminicent of Seraphine Pick).

I got the impression that perhaps the classmates thought my effort was a bit simple. But then, that was what I was aiming for. It is, after all, based on TLM's shape-sorting toy, as well as images from her Baby Newton DVD.

I like the marbling. For me the difference between someone who has artistic leanings and someone, well, like me, is that you can do that stuff without it looking like a godawful mess.

Thanks cathi. I think being able to "do that stuff without making a godawful mess" is more down to practice than artistic leanings.

I like simple. Simple is good. :)

This is a painting class. If you were already perfect, then you'd hardly need the class. For what it's worth, I like it.

Simple can sometimes be the best, but I expect you to get lots better as you work your way through your class.

I also think simple can be the way to go.

That's brilliant. The colours are great. I still like the one with the 'Laughing Cow' cheese best.

I like it too. The simplicity makes it. It's a neat concept too.

I started out with my usual murky palete and my usual desire to create something complex, but that just doesn't fit with the idea of toddlerhood, learning shapes and falling over. So I'm glad you all like it.
