An eye for an eye

Having just finished The Lovely Bones, I've come to realise just how important revenge is to me. Although I loved the book, I was very slightly disappointed with one aspect of the ending, and it's to do with the fact that I have a need for retribution.

Whenever I read in the papers about someone who's been really cruel (whether to another human being or to an animal - it doesn't matter), it always makes me wish for some truly horrible thing to happen to the perpetrator.

The one thing that saved Dogville for me, because it was so hard to watch such extreme meanness and cruelty, was the vengence wrought on the nasty, nasty people of that town.

None of this 'they know not what they do' shit, or relying on karma - I wanna see justice.

I think I'm a very vengeful person too. Others might say that's a bad thing, but I know right and wrong (doesn't everyone though?). ha

I know what you mean, but if you were the one that had to mete revenge on someone could you really do it? And then you'd be no better than them. Violence is never the answer.

Vengence would have to take a form appropriate to the original wrongdoing , and I don't believe in punishing an innocent party just to make another person suffer for his own misdeeds. So no, lightning bolts probably wouldn't do - but in some cases, torture would.

I don't know if I could do it if I was given the chance to - I wouldn't know unless actually in that situation. but I'd imagine that if someone hurt me or someone I loved, it would feel good to be able to hurt them back just as badly. Violence can be a useful thing...

I've always held a quiet hope that the person sho wronged me will have car trouble halfway througha long drive on their vacation, thereby wasting that vacation.

Of course food poisoning is always good too.

How did this person wrong you, Rainypete? Was it a motoring thing? When drivers cut me off, or don't use their indicators properly, I usually hope their car gets coined.
