big buy-up

The nursery shopping is nearly all done, and boy did it cost. We spent nearly a grand, and that didn't even include a car seat or buggy (because we're renting those for the first few months)! We've got a travel cot, a bouncy hammock, blankets, cot sheets, monitor, winnie-the-pooh night light, hooded baby towels, singlets, bath seat and cloth nappies. I just about had a heart attack when I saw on the receipt that the nappies alone cost fifty bucks.

I've just noticed, now that my computer has been moved to the study and opposite a set of mirror tiles, that - when I sit down I look just like Mr Creosote.

those bouncy hammock things are awesome, if they are what i think it is-very portable, lightweight-and darth jr. loved it..we took it to the park, beach, etc..and he could be somewhat upright the whole time, plus the gentle bouncing keeps them calm...

yeah, i remember that receipt pain still too...mostly because it is still going on 10 years later-darth jr. seems to wear thru and out grow tennis shoes and clothes like nobody's business..ah well..

They should make those bouncy hammocks in adult sizes.

And they do say that if people actually figured out the full cost of having children, they'd never have them.

darth: I reckon you're talking about the bouncy baby seats. The one we got is suspended from a hook in the ceiling - not much good at the beach.

flying kiwi: I'd probably get sea-sick in one of those!

Those hammocks are fantastic. Our little one zoned right out when plonked in it.

It's really terrifying to have to go stock up for a new arrival. What these things cost can be pretty wacky.

there's just something about the word nappy that just makes me smile :)

Glad to know the baby will have some Winnie-the-Pooh in his/her life.

A friend of mine has a bouncy hammock on a stand, kind of like a giant lampshade. Or a Triffid. Plunket gave it to her cos her baby wouldn't settle. The hammock works!

A mere pittance in the cost of a child. But they are worth every penny..

rainypete:we'd heard really good things about them, got one. Unfortunately, the best place to hang it from is right where our small dining table is.

ali: you Americans call 'em diapers don't you? I don't know the origin of the word 'napy', but I'm sure someone does.

Kazzer: the little one will also have a little Peter Rabbit in it's life too - in the form of a hooded towel.

Editter - Plunket gave her one? That's good going - those things cost almost 200 bucks.

happyandblue2: yep, there's no point in going through the whole pregancy thing and childbirth thing if you aren't prepared to look after the end product properly.
