S.A.D.

I think it's just the god-awful weather we're having at the moment - the wind, the blanket of grey overhead, the cool temperatures - but I've found myself feeling inordinately slothlike these last few days. Before you blame it on post-gluttony digestive slow-down though, let me assure you that I haven't been pigging out that much.

When it's sunny and warm, I itch to get out and about even if I have nothing particular in mind to do.

When it's yucky, especially if the wind is provoking a sneezy-wheezy response from me, all I seem able to do is potter about indoors feeling dozy.

Last night we finished the last of the three DVDs I rented in the weekend - DVDs which I almost didn't get to rent at all because it was at that moment that I discovered my bank balance was -$1.26.

We both really enjoyed A History of Violence (Cronenberg-directed, yet so lacking in wierdness), thought the film-student movie Hidden was too dull to continue after the first, arty-farty, 20 minutes, and had mixed feelings about Before Sunrise. I think that a 24-hour romance while training around Europe is all wonderful and memorable if you're in the middle of it. But it's kind of boring when you're watching someone else experience it, and you can only barely remember what it was like to be a single traveller with the whole world in front of you.

The weather makes a difference in my mood too. Hopefully everything will turn pretty again soon. Here is a smile for you :).

Before Sunrise has a sequel, based ten years later, which is basically the same thing. The beauty of both movies is the chemistry between Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy who apparently had to ad lib most of the lines as the director wanted to keep it as real as possible. But having said that, they are both movies that you have to be in the mood for, and definitely not to be watched after A History of Violence!

It has been very foggy and damp here, quite chilly too, and add to that a general season of belly-stuffing and over-indulging, and my first run after the short break this afternoon was a nightmare. In fact teh course I run, which usually takes me about 35 mins, took me almost an hour to get around, and that included a short bus ride at the end.

I'm kidding, I wasn't that bad.

I never heard of those last 2. I would kill for some cool to cold temperatures right now. Wintertime does not feel right when it's 60 out.
Happy Holidays though.

angela: thanks for the smile. The weather has improved actually, tho it's forecast to be shitty again just in time for New Year.

onscreen: Ethan Hawke's character really irritated me - I think it was just his brashness, but then he is a 20-something American I suppose. I've never been much of a romance movie fan, which is probably the real reason I didn't get too much out of it.

gary james: Good for you, for continuing on that great quest for washboard abs, steel buns and legs that go like Everready batteries. Someone's got to do it.

glomgold: Sometimes I reckon there's no point in designing summer clothes in NZ. The manufactureres could easily get away with making winter clothes all year 'round, but sometimes in spring and summer colours.

michael c: it's a long time ago, far far away, that's what it is...

charlotte: I probably won't bother with the sequel, though I can imagine the two of them would be much more interesting since they're older and likely to have lots of baggage.

no milk: a rare comment from an admired blogger helps! All the best to you too :-)
