My big night out

My work is putting on a big do for the staff tomorrow evening. We're all going to a pantomime (Aladdin), followed by dinner and probably drinks after that. Not only that, but it's staff only i.e. no partners, so babysitting isn't going to be a problem for me (hee hee!).

The only thing that worries me about my going out on the town for the first time in about 18 months - apart from the possibility that the boy doesn't get home in time to take over care of The Little Madam - is that my staying-out stamina is somewhat diminished these days.

I reckon that by the time the panto has finished it'll be pretty close to the time or night I'm normally horizontal on the couch, fully-fed and almost too drowsy to watch the rest of the Angel DVD (or else I'll be tensely waiting for TLM to get over her teething gums and go the hell to sleep). By the time dinner arrives I'll be wishing I was home already instead of making small talk over my warm lamb salad (which I hope will be on the menu). When everyone else is getting nicely sloshed on wines I'll be trudging to my car, tiredly walking into rubbish bins like a drunk person.

On the other hand, it'll be a night out and I'm going to do my best to stay awake through it all.

oh, I like charlotte's idea of breakfast handler for the next morning. that would definately help the staying out stamina if we knew there was some bonus time in the morning.
have fun and be safe

Aladdin is a lot of fun, full of Roger Hall puns. Enjoy!

Once you are out you will probably be surprised at the stamina you have..

I can't even stay awake after dinner so you sound like you're doing better than some.
And 'lamb salad'? What is this crazy talk?!

Then again you might find a night out is just what you need. Have fun.

FYI the pantomime was really fun. There were tons of kids who really got into the audience participation aspect and the puns were awfully good. It turned out to be a not very drunken night for the others too; I let around 10.15 and by then it looked like I wasn't the only one going home. But then, apart from one youngster I was probably the youngest person in the party. I like Charlotte's ideal babysitter too, although it won't make that much difference to who long I last...

glomgold, a warm lamb salad is wonderful - nicely grilled pieces of lamb sitting on a bed of salad leaves and doused in a piquant dressing...mmmm...unfortunately it wasn't on the menu so I made do with a teriyaki beef stir-fry with Hokkien noodles.

And even though the boy didn't come with, he appreciated getting a look at me all dolled up :-)

hope the night was enjoyable. Believe me, at some point you need to get away for a little while ;-)

It's when the kids tell you they need a break form us that worrying time begins...

michael c: yeah it was good. Next time though, I'd rather have a night out with good friends rather than with workmates - even if it was all paid for!

And there will definitely be a next time...
