Fever

After weeks of successful breastfeeding, I thought that I had the whole process down pat; sore nipples were a thing of the past and I seemed to have escaped all the potential problems I'd read about in Bestfeeding. But on Saturday night, my right boob was throbbing so much that I couldn't sleep during those 2-3 hours periods between feeds, and yesterday morning my joints ached as though I had 'flu or something. Feeding Baby on that side hurt like crazy; the needle-sharp pain was similar to that of a urinary tract infection.

I left two messages with the midwife, but by the time she returned my calls I'd already taken myself to the After Hours clinic. I had come down with mastitis. So now I'm on antibiotics, and the boy has opted to stay home today to look after me. Actually, I suspect the boy has stayed home with me because the plasma TV he bought yesterday has arrived, but I could be wrong.

Meanwhile, Baby celebrated the fact that both parents are home by refusing to go to sleep. From around 8am, she managed to follow feeding with pooing, burping and fussing, finally collapsing into a deep sleep at 2.30pm.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to be a boy here and say who cares about you and baby, get the boy to post a detailed rundown of the plasma, please.

(just kidding)

Get better soon! I have no idea what that feels like, but it sounds unpleasant, to say the least.

As far as the last post is concerned, I would take your mom's food, but I don't think it'd be so fresh by the time it got here ;)

The pain you are having now that you have a child only lasts...well forever, tee,hee..

she's still worth it, though, right?

she sounds feisty but adorable, but I'm sure it would be more fun for you without all the pain!

onscreen: For the boys out there, the plasma tv is a 42 inch Phillips model. It's possible to split the screen in two, or view in movie format. And it's silver. For real details, I really would have to get the boy to write the post...

eb: it does sound like mastitis, but you must've been able to sort it out without the drugs. Perhaps I should get one of those breast pumps too, since it's taking it's time going away. You kinda need a big room for a plasma tv - ours is a little too small for a 42 incher, I reckon.

e: yes! Baby has often been unsettled after feeds, except when she falls asleep right after feeding. Is it because the taste of the milk has changed due to the mastitis?

jon: It must be so much easier being a single guy and only having to worry about where the coolest eateries are...

happyandblue2: It must be so much easier being a guy...

the editter: I'm finding these first few weeks pretty hard going, but apparently it's par for the course until Baby starts getting more sociable - often when 'bonding' really gets going. I really hope I don't end up producing a Kevin just because I haven't experienced continuous joy right from the start. She makes me wonder whether I was like that myself at her age.

Given the choice of mastitis or plasma TV I think the fellow probably is a bit distracted!

eb: it took that long to express, even with an electric pump? Geez, that's a little inconvenient...What's Lasinoh?

glomgold: the boy had very good reasons for getting the plasma tv of course - so that we could hang it on the wall above the reach of little hands. :-)
