windfall

It's really strange. In my mail today I found a cheque for a nice amount of money, presumably from some transaction involving shares. I don't recognise the name of the firm, and don't as a rule go around buying shares all over the place. It's so bizarre. It's possible that it's a mistake of course, and the cheques was meant for someone else, but I think I'll bank that cheque before that's confirmed.

Sometimes companies send out checks (yankee spelling) that when endorsed and cashed establish a contract to do, for instance, change your phone company, or open a line of credit.

Geez, that's pretty sneaky.

You sure it's a real cheque? Sometimes you get fake ones sent when someone is trying to hook you into a service of some kind, which can't actually be banked/cashed.

You could always ring the company that sent it to you to check it's legit.

Otherwise, if you want a second opinion bring it in one day and I'll have a look at it over lunch.

It's ok Des - I checked out the website and apparently they're linked to the AMP shares I received when I used to used to do business with them.

Aha! So it IS free money! Yippee! I'll never earn anything on the few crappy shares I own of whatever-the-hell-company it is.

glomgold: nice isn't it? I won't exactly make a living from it though. Besides, they say that to make money from share you have to be buying and selling rather than waiting for dividend cheques.
