Too sweet

What a tragedy. I've been instructed to lay off the sweets, because the results of my Glucose Challenge Test (which sounds like a reality tv show, but isn't) indicate that my blood sugar levels are a teensy bit higher than they ought to be.

When I found out, I thought back guiltily to the pillow-sized French pastry I had for lunch. And the chocolate bar I snacked on last night, which was a preggy prezzie from a friend. And the giant blueberry muffin in the fridge. And the biscuits and gourmet ice cream.

For I have a sweet tooth matched only by the that of the boy, who is English and therefore has a very sweet tooth indeed.

To add further suffering to this Lent-like sacrifice, I have to go for more tests on Thursday - this time I have to fast. That means nothing except water may pass my lips between 9.30pm Wednesday and whenever the tests finish on Thursday (hopefully no later than 10am).

Fasting of any sort is a minor catastrophe for my metabolism, because I'm the sort of person who has to eat frequently in order to avoid feeling weak, lethargic and horribly grumpy.

Meanwhile I'll cross my fingers and hope I don't develop gestational diabetes.

Oh that is awful. No chocolate! I can't imagine. But I suppose if the alternative is gestational diabetes...

It shouldn't be too hard to eat nothing between 9.30pm and 10am should it? But you're already worried about it, which isn't good... make sure your last supper has protein and no sugar! you'll cope better with the fasting.

It doesn't mean you have to give up sweets all together- that would be a horrible prospect! Just savor a few here and there and you should be fine, and baby too :)

That is an unfortunate thing. Sweets are just too damn good. Though I guess the repercussions are scary enough.
I wonder how I'd fare in that Glucose Challenge. Bring it on!

flying kiwi: it's not the chocolate I'll miss - it's the goodies at the Pak'n Save bakery section, the ice cream and the fruit slice biscuits...

editter: I know that if I slept in till 9.30 I'd be okay with not eating till after 10. But I'm gonna have to get up extra early, which means my stomach's gonna want something in it early...

jon:I'm still eating fresh fruit, but at least until the next lot of results come in I will resolve to be other-sugar free. I'd have to suck on diabetic sweets, and apparently too many of those causes diarrhoea (so easy to get, so hard to spell...)

glomgold: too right. Well if the Glucose Challenge were a tv show, you'd probably have to show up shirtless. I'm glad it isn't.
