Robot love

Ever since the boy brought home the DVD Wall-E about a week and a half ago, TLM has watched it at least once per day. The boy and I quite like it too - Wall-E is such a charming little beastie and Eve is a refreshingly un-girlie girl robot. She's pretty, but she's a bit fat around the waist - and she's got firepower to die for - not yer typical Hollywood heroine.

In short, the movie is about Wall-E, the last-remaining rubbish-compacter robot on an Earth piled high in rubbish; Eve, the robot probe sent to Earth to check out it's livability status; and a spaceship full of gravity-deprived humans who've been waiting over 700 years to go home.

This movie really made me think. Here are some of those thoughts:
  • Wall-E is completely lovable and friendly, but if he were a person I think he'd be short, fat, balding and wear coke-bottle-bottom glasses.
  • The Axiom is carrying what is presumably the remains of the human race. It's a damned large craft and there appear to be thousands aboard, at least. But looking at these people, I get the feeling they are all American. Maybe it's because they remind me of the stereotypical American tourist - large, mostly white, and unworldly. And they are all dressed in similar tracksuits.
  • If there is to be a sequel, it will be really hard to make a believable one that doesn't have most of the population dying off from starvation and dehydration. Because these people think that you can grow pizza from seed.
  • Also, did ya see the rubbish piles on board the spaceship? The people have evidently not learned the lesson about recycling and reusing. give them another planet and they will probably trash that one too, eventually.
One can only hope.

Yeah, I think Wall E as a person would probably be Paul Giamati.
Who did quite a good turn as John Adams.

the Daughter of the House didn't much care for Wall-E. She has gone right off all movies for some reason. I liked it though & I thought it was extremely clever the way most of the film has no dialogue.

nigel: who're John Adams and Paul Giamati? I take it they are short, fat, balding and bespectacled?

mtnw: yeah I thought that was really well done, the non-vocal bits. So what does DOTH favour then, if not movies?

Paul Giamatti is thin, short and funny looking. He's in lots of movies. He makes Phillip Seymore Hoffman look possitively virile.
John Adams was president from 1797 to 1801.
He was a little, round, bald, bespectacled man who now has his own HBO miniseries.

Nigel: is he (Giamati) the guy whose been in Fargo and other such movies? Anyway, Wall-E would be something like those 2, but sweet.

Nope, that's Steve Buscemi. An entirely different brand of funny looking actor.
Giamatti starred in Pecar and has done a lot of small comedic rolls.

I still haven't gotten around to seeing Wall E.

nigel: you should get it out on DVD. It's quite funny and not too cute at all.

Gregory liked that movie, but I didn't care for it.
I think being blind has something to do with it.
Very little dialog = boring for the blind.
It was good for me to sleep through while gregory watched

angela: oh, what a shame. You got a nice nap out of it though!

Non-Gwyneth was not in Sideways (Sandra Ong??? or whatever her name is and other un-famous people) but she is in Duets. OH come on, Duets is the greatest karaoke movie of all time! And is quite hilarious. Gwyneth's sort of an equal main player but she's not in heaps of it.

donnasoowho: ah I must've been thinking of Sliding Doors ;-). I've never been attracted to karaoke movies...come to think of it, are there any other karaoke movies apart from Duet?

She likes tv- Playhouse Disney especially the Imagination Movers. It's the only reason we pay for sky

mtnw: well it sounds educational so I guess it might be worth it. It's gotta be better than Ben 10.
